LECTURES
back
to Meditation Programs
Although
experiencing mindfulness is infinitely more powerful and instructive than
talking about it, information is important as a means of providing
participants with a context for a mindful way of life and mindfulness
practice. Not everybody is burning to hit the cushion just yet, but many
people are curious about the possibility of a different point of view,
looking for the chance of dreaming the impossible, hoping for the prospect
of entertaining new life options never thought of before, and yearning for
the courage to take the road less traveled by, to sing the song one is
destined to sing.
By
introducing and discussing practical, theoretical and historical
background issues pertaining to the world of mindfulness, such lectures
can inspire us to think where there didn’t seem to be anything to think
about, consider new worlds when the old ones seemed so familiar and cozy,
ponder new directions when the one we were following seemed so common
sense and unavoidable, discover information when we thought we already
knew it all, and surrender to the heart’s uncommon knowledge that for
years already told us a truth we couldn’t listen to.
These
lectures explore ‘The World of
Mindfulness’, how mindfulness sheds a new light on topics and issues
we all face in our daily lives. We present a variety of topics such as:
- The
Zen of space travel – A look at the organism that we are
- Alternative
medicine or mainstream medicine? – Participatory medicine and the
truth about disease care costs
- The
body-mind – Myths and facts about chemical imbalances in psychiatry
- How
did we get here anyway? – A glance at how babies study their parents
- ‘...til
death doth us part...’ – Harmony and conflict in a mindful
marriage
- Who
is in charge? – The art of mindful parenting
- The
couch and the cushion – A closer look at psychodynamic psychotherapy
and its roots in mindfulness
- Appointment
with the moment – Meditation
is not what you think
- The
forgotten roots of religion and spirituality

‘I
went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately,
to front only the essential facts of life
and see if I could not learn what it had to teach
and not, when I came to die,
discover that I had not lived.’
Henry David Thoreau, ‘Walden’
