Alison Kelford., MD., MHSc, CCFP, FCFP
Over 20 years’ experience helping people manage a wide range of mental health and stress-based illnesses.
Alison is a family physician in community practice in Oakville. She obtained an Honours Bachelor of Science in Psychology, followed by a Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology from the University of Toronto. After working in augmentative communication and brain injury, she returned to school obtaining her medical degree and family residency training at McMaster University. Committed to a bio-psycho-social model of wellness, Alison also completed training with Dr. Herbert Benson at the Mind-Body institute at Harvard University; with Jon Kabat –Zinn in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction through the University of Massachusetts Medical School, as well as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at McMaster University and U of T. Most recently she has received certification in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) through the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social work and the Centre for Mindfulness Studies in Toronto, with Dr. Zindal Segal and Dr Patricia Rockman. She presently attends Dr. Treyvaud’s Mindsight Intensive program.
Alison has more than 20 years’ experience helping people manage a wide range of mental health and stress-based illnesses in a primary care setting. She has a longstanding mindfulness meditation practice, which she has found to be transformative in allowing her manage the stressors of balancing a medical practice, family and personal wellness. She is committed to bringing these practices forward to benefit others. She is presently on the faculty at the Centre for Mindfulness Studies in Toronto, and is looking forward to working with Dr. Treyvaud and Dr. Macdonald at the Mindfulness Centre in Oakville.
