Mindful Self-Compassion Program

The Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) program provides a rigorous and systematic training in the cultivation of self-compassion within a safe, therapeutic environment. It teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care and understanding.

Taught by Dr. Linda Macdonald and Marlene Van Esch, MSW

Mindful self-compassion (MSC) is an empirically-supported, 9-week training program, designed to cultivate the skill of self-compassion. Based on the ground-breaking research of Kristen Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer, MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with kindness, care and understanding.

Self-compassion can be learned by anyone, even those who didn’t receive enough affection in childhood or feel uncomfortable when they are good to themselves. It’s a courageous attitude that stands up to harm, including the harm we unwittingly inflict upon ourselves through self-criticism, self-isolation or self-absorption. Self-compassion provides emotional strength and resilience, allowing us to admit our shortcomings, motivate ourselves with kindness, forgive ourselves when needed, relate wholeheartedly to others, and be more authentically ourselves.

The Mindful Self-Compassion Programs are 9-week introductory programs into the world of self-compassion. They take place several times per year and are only available to people who have taken the MBSR or MBCT Program. They are led by Dr. Macdonald and co-facilitator Marlene Van Esch.

Only participants who have taken the MBSR or MBCT program can then enroll in the MSC program with Dr. Macdonald.

To participate, please call our office and book an assessment appointment with Dr. Macdonald. No referral from your family physician is needed.

We do have a waiting list, because there are occasionally last minute cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances. However, only people who have been assessed by Dr. Macdonald can be put on the waiting list.
